There are solid white lines to prevent vehicles&nbsp;from overtaking on approach to the brow of&nbsp;a hill, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/general-rules-all-drivers-riders-103-to-158\/lines-and-lane-markings-on-the-road-127-to-132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this rule in the Highway Code<\/a>&nbsp;gives car drivers the excuse&nbsp;to ignore them, make an unsafe pass potentially having to cut in to avoid an oncoming car they didn&#8217;t see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/general-rules-all-drivers-riders-103-to-158\/lines-and-lane-markings-on-the-road-127-to-132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-555 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/HighwayCode129.png\" alt=\"HighwayCode129\" width=\"673\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/HighwayCode129.png 673w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/HighwayCode129-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every night on my&nbsp;commute home I see cars, HGVs and coaches straddling these double solid lines to pass cyclists, most are not slowing down traffic and doing more than 10mph, so in effect these drivers <em>are<\/em> contravening rule 129. Maybe divert some police resource from red light jumping duties to watch this spot for dangerous driving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hate this stretch of road sometimes.
