{"id":366,"date":"2013-11-16T23:30:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-16T23:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcushowarth.com\/?p=366"},"modified":"2023-09-25T04:09:52","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T04:09:52","slug":"action-for-advocacy-find-an-advocate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/?p=366","title":{"rendered":"Action For Advocacy : Find an Advocate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-367\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4alogo.gif\" alt=\"a4alogo\" width=\"201\" height=\"79\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A few years ago I developed the site for Action For Advocacy but they have since ceased operational activity, so the site at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk<\/a>\u00a0is no longer maintained.<\/p>\n<p>As a result the page\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk\/articleServlet_action=list&amp;articletype=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find an Advocate<\/a>\u00a0now states the service is unavailable.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The map link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk\/articleServlet_action=list&amp;articletype=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-368 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/map_uk-150x150.gif\" alt=\"map_uk\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After recently talking with a user of the site I was suddenly made aware of what a valuable resource this has become to some.<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea how long the site will remain hosted, and feel it is such a shame that the data there will go out of date and eventually vanish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4acredits.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-826\" src=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4acredits.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4acredits.png 840w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4acredits-292x300.png 292w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/a4acredits-768x788.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: the site has appeared again with a banner along the top FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY UNDER OGL and all articles and contacts re-direct to the home page but still allows fast navigation of the site. It&#8217;s still running the servlet code with JSPs (making heavy use of <strong>javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagSupport;<\/strong><br \/>\u00a0I had obviously discovered at the time!) and persisted with mySQL, for example the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk\/articleServlet_action=list&amp;articletype=36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">site credits page<\/a> is still there. I look back at that code and shudder at the lack of tests, probably why it&#8217;s now only a private repository on github! Ask though if you&#8217;re interested, I only found the code again recently myself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Incidentally Netahead was good friend and colleague\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/lukejennings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke Jennings<\/a> who I&#8217;d worked with at ASPACE 2003-2005, he edited the JSPs adding styles, and painstakingly created <a href=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/map.jsp_.txt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">those maps<\/a>! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few years ago I developed the site for Action For Advocacy but they have since ceased operational activity, so the site at http:\/\/www.actionforadvocacy.org.uk\u00a0is no longer maintained.
