{"id":355,"date":"2013-11-11T13:57:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-11T13:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcushowarth.com\/?p=355"},"modified":"2022-09-29T12:23:01","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T12:23:01","slug":"road-signs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/?p=355","title":{"rendered":"Road signs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>While driving around Hampshire at the weekend (with the bikes on the back I may add) I got to wondering about the clarity, and indeed the meaning of the road signs we use today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this in mind I have a suggestion for this one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-300x298.png\" alt=\"roadworks\" class=\"wp-image-356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-300x298.png 300w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks.png 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I very rarely see a man (or woman) shovelling bitumen, or indeed anyone at the side of the road with or without an oversized umbrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I do see, and what I think the sign should be warning us of is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-new.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-new-300x298.png\" alt=\"roadworks-new\" class=\"wp-image-357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-new-300x298.png 300w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-new-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/marcus.howarth.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/roadworks-new.png 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, while we drove around the country lanes I saw many of these<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/worded-flood.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"176\" height=\"155\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/worded-flood.png\" alt=\"worded-flood\" class=\"wp-image-358\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I can see the point, but it really doesn&#8217;t give any indication of the severity of the issue, and on most occasions leaves the driver somewhat underwhelmed.
